A few times each year, Laundry Studio opens its doors for small-group workshops centered around art-making, pattern, and creative exploration.
Each workshop focuses on a different theme, offering participants an opportunity to slow down, experiment, and engage with the creative process in a hands-on way. Topics may include mark-making, pattern development, color, composition, visual storytelling, and creative practice.
Hosted in Laundry Studio's light-filled Portland warehouse space, these workshops are designed to feel thoughtful, engaging, and approachable. Whether you're an artist, designer, or simply someone looking to reconnect with creativity, you'll leave with new ideas, original work, and a deeper understanding of how art becomes pattern.

Spend an afternoon exploring the playful side of pattern design.
We'll experiment with a wide variety of mark-making tools and techniques to create an original collection of textures, shapes, and hand-drawn elements. Then we'll take those marks into repeat, where you'll learn the fundamentals of building a repeating pattern, exploring colorways, and preparing artwork for printing and real-world applications.
Whether you're a designer, illustrator, artist, or simply curious about pattern, this workshop is designed to spark new ideas and give you practical tools you can continue using long after the class ends.
No previous pattern design experience is required. All materials are provided. A laptop with Adobe Suite (Photoshop) is required.
You'll Leave With:
A collection of original handmade marks and textures
A finished repeating pattern
An understanding of repeat basics and color exploration
