The Design Studio creates custom patterns, illustrations, and print direction for brands that believe thoughtful artwork transforms products into something memorable. We develop artwork that tells a story, creates connection with consumers, and gives products a distinctive visual voice.

Our process begins with drawing, research, and experimentation and then evolves through thoughtful design into production-ready artwork for apparel, accessories, and home goods. The result is work that is bold, expressive, and commercially considered—bringing an artist's perspective to the realities of product design.

Creative Scholarship

Each year, I offer one scholarship to the Pattern School for an artist or designer who would benefit from the experience but for whom cost would otherwise be a barrier.

2027 Applications open October 1, 2026.

Applications are reviewed thoughtfully and individually. Recipients are selected based on the integrity of their application, creative curiosity, and how meaningful the opportunity is likely to be at this stage of their creative practice.

Jen has been a source of opportunity and inspiration over the years, so I was eager to participate in Pattern School. She guided me through starting my own print collection—from concept to production. Each session was personalized and full of laughter and fresh perspectives. Pattern School is fun and rewarding, and learning from Jen is an absolute joy!
— Elena Gorger / Daybreak Fitness
Jen invited me to trust my hands and follow instinct, rhythm, and flow. She revealed the creative potential of tools I often treat formally, showing how they can become playful companions with a sense of curiosity. I realized how much I’ve overlooked by using them only in conventional ways, and those small, instinctive gestures can become the seed of a design uniquely its own.
— Mai Ide / Visual Artist

A few times each year, Laundry Studio opens its doors for small-group workshops centered around art-making, pattern, and creative exploration.

Each workshop focuses on a different theme, offering participants an opportunity to slow down, experiment, and engage with the creative process in a hands-on way. Topics may include mark-making, pattern development, color, composition, visual storytelling, and creative practice.

Hosted in Laundry Studio's light-filled Portland warehouse space, these workshops are designed to feel thoughtful, engaging, and approachable. Whether you're an artist, designer, or simply someone looking to reconnect with creativity, you'll leave with new ideas, original work, and a deeper understanding of how art becomes pattern.

Upcoming Workshops:

No previous pattern design experience is required. All materials are provided. A laptop with Adobe Suite (Photoshop) is required.
